18 Feb 2014 Barn Swallows in Batangas city, Philippines:
Barn Swallows in Far East | I’m Mr. Oliver Carandang Gonzales, from the Philippines, City Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Batangas City. We have started monitoring the swallows that landed on our city since 2010 and from there on until now, they are continuously populating!! What’s more, during night time, they’ll find time to get together, all swallows at the center of the city, along our electrical lines….good to know that you have this site which carefully monitored their migration!!

the Barn Swallow are still here…
Reply: Noticed that Sue from Hong Kong wanted to know what happens to their Swallows in the winter. I have come across Swallows in Singapore / Thailand / Saigon indeed I think they are almost semi resident as they are always present when I have passed through at all times of year. Also seen them in numerous Far East islands during winter e.g Bali etc and I think this is where they head for winter sun, as China and Honkers and Japan get quite cool in winter. Have attached a couple of photos of Swifts over Saigon but they are difficult to see along with a pair hunting over Dubai airport which are even more difficult to see – check out the scrub which they call grass at DXB. Home for a while so will try and get better pictures of returnees for you, as the girls have now shown up, so the stunt flying has now started in earnest. We know have 5 Swallows in one barn and 6 in next doors. Regards Mac
